Voice of Maslon

Voice of Maslon: Terry Newby

One of the most difficult things about joining a law firm as a lateral hire is merging your previous experience and skills into a new environment, with a new set of expectations. I joined Maslon in 2015 as a lateral litigation partner, having worked previously at several Twin Cities law firms and as an assistant state attorney general. I was hopeful that my experience at other private law firms and in government would help me succeed at Maslon. After three years, I can say that joining Maslon was the best professional decision I could have made.

Every law firm claims to promote a collaborative environment, but at Maslon, collaboration among different practice groups is a core value. In my three years here, I have worked closely with attorneys in the business & securities practice group as well as the litigation group. This collaboration allows me to bring my expertise in intellectual property litigation and counseling to a new client base. This kind of "cross pollination" is rare in other law firms. But at Maslon, it is not just welcomed, it is expected, and my clients have benefited greatly by getting to work with exceptionally talented lawyers in the firm outside of my practice group. Joining Maslon was not only great for me, it was the best move for my clients—which is the finest measure of the firm's commitment to client service.

I am honored to work every day with such talented colleagues.
