Voice of Maslon
I had an excellent summer associate experience with Maslon. It is hard to find something to say about Maslon's summer program that so many other law students haven't already said. Like the other former summer associates, I too worked on real, challenging assignments; had impactful professional observation experiences and fun social opportunities; and formed great relationships with talented, supportive colleagues. Though all of these things made for a rewarding summer, what really stood out to me about Maslon is the extent to which everyone at the firm really invests in the summer associates.
This level of investment was clear from beginning of the program. I started the summer program uncertain about which practice areas I wanted to pursue. The program coordinators worked to give me a varied workload and a wide range of observation opportunities. Their commitment to providing interesting, challenging, and diverse assignments helped me to choose a practice area. Once I did, the program coordinators fully supported my choice by tailoring my assignments to my interests. They went out of their way to connect me with associates and partners in the areas in which I was interested, giving me a strong foundation on which to build lasting professional relationships.
Maslon's investment in its summer associates isn't limited to the program's coordinators. I had formal mentorship relationships with an associate mentor, a partner mentor, and a writing mentor. All three regularly reached out to see how they could support my professional development and provided candid feedback whenever I had questions. My assigning attorneys also went above and beyond providing basic feedback on my work product. They took time to teach me new skills and concepts, introduced me to clients, and sought my input on strategic decisions. Throughout the summer I was also able to connect with attorneys with whom I didn't work directly on assignments. Whether it was over a cup of coffee, at the summer retreat, or in passing at the office, nearly every attorney at the firm reached out to get to know me and ask how they could help support me in my time at Maslon.
I feel fortunate to have worked at a firm that invests so much in its summer associates, and I am excited to come back for a second summer with Maslon.
