October 9, 2023
Maslon is pleased to announce that Corporate & Securities Group Chair Susan Markey has been recognized among the 2023 Notable Women in Law by Twin Cities Business magazine. Susan has earned a reputation for providing trusted guidance to clients on general corporate, mergers/acquisitions, taxation, and nonprofit matters. She draws from a diverse background in government, accounting, and law to serve as a holistic business advisor, and strongly believes that legal advice should be both easy to understand and practical. In her nonprofit work, she is passionate about positioning organizations for sustainable long-term success.
Hired as an associate at Maslon in 2016, Susan was elected to the firm's partnership in 2021, became co-chair of her practice group the following year, and rose to chair in 2023. In a challenging hiring environment, she has succeeded in bringing eight new attorneys to the team in the past 18 months, demonstrating a deep commitment to providing them the guidance and mentoring that allows them to thrive.
Susan's leadership in the community includes serving as secretary of the board of Vision Loss Resources, formerly the Minneapolis and St. Paul Societies for the Blind; she has worked on the board since 2019. Susan also serves on the Women's Leadership Congress of Meritas, a global network of independent law firms. In addition, Susan is an active member of the Minnesota chapter of the Women Presidents Organization. At Maslon, Susan broadly shares her time and expertise, serving on the pro bono, recruiting, retirement, and office space committees.
Those named as Notable Women in Law are exemplary professionals who handle complex transactions and use their expertise to guide a variety of clients through obstacles, the magazine explains. They also are instrumental in serving as mentors, doing pro bono work that addresses social and economic causes, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
