November 1, 2021
Maslon is pleased to announce that Steve Schleicher, a partner in Maslon's Litigation Group and co-chair of the Government & Internal Investigations Group, was chosen to receive the 2021 Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania Innocence Project.
Steve and fellow attorney Jerry Blackwell were honored for their pro bono work as special prosecutors in the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. The two discussed the case in a fireside chat at the virtual awards ceremony, which took place Oct. 20.
In July 2020, Steve was one of four attorneys from private practice and in house selected to serve on a pro bono basis as part of the larger prosecution team, which includes representatives from the Minnesota Attorney General's Office and the Hennepin County Attorney's Office—all working under the leadership of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. Steve continues his service as the trial of the other three former police officers charged in George Floyd's death approaches.
