Navigating the Ethics of Representing Non-English-Speaking Clients in Pro Bono Work

Maslon Partner Julian Zebot will present a complimentary CLE Oct. 2 titled "Navigating the Ethics of Representing Non-English-Speaking Clients in Pro Bono Work." Julian and his co-presenter, Kim Boche of Advocates for Human Rights, will explore the unique ethical challenges and considerations when providing pro bono legal services, focusing in particular on representation of non-English-speaking clients.
Julian and Kim will discuss the importance of cultural competence, effective communication, and the ethical obligations under the Model Rules of Professional Conduct. Attendees will gain insights into best practices for ensuring competent and ethical representation, including the use of interpreters and addressing potential conflicts of interest.
Maslon will seek approval with the Minnesota State Board of Continuing Legal Education for 1.0 hour of ethics CLE credit.

Julian serves on the Maslon board of directors and chairs the Trust & Estate Litigation practice group. He focuses his legal work on probate, fiduciary, and trust litigation as well as business and commercial litigation. Among other board and bar committee responsibilities, he is chair of The Fund for Legal Aid Society board of directors and vice chair of the Litigation Ethics and Malpractice Group of the ABA's Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section.
