Maslon to Move to Capella Tower, Returning to Site of Its Original Building
December 19, 2023
Maslon is pleased to announce that it will move to new offices in Capella Tower in Minneapolis effective Jan. 8, 2024. The 35,000-square-foot space comprises two floors at Capella and will house approximately 140 staff and attorneys.
Capella Tower sits on the block formerly occupied by the Builders Exchange Building, the 12-story structure where founder Samuel Maslon and a handful of partners first opened Maslon Kaplan Edelman Joseph & Borman in 1956. The Builders Exchange was razed in 1985.
“We are thrilled to move into a space designed to better serve our clients and our firm members into the future—and we believe the best place for us to do business remains downtown Minneapolis,” said Maslon Board Chair Keiko Sugisaka. “The fact that we are returning to the site of our original building is a serendipitous reminder of our roots and the legacy of Sam Maslon.”
The Minneapolis office of Perkins&Will designed the new space in collaboration with Maslon, focusing on sustainability and employee wellness. Maslon is pursuing WELL Certification, which focuses on occupant health and well-being in the built environment.
“From the beginning, the leaders at Maslon committed to providing their employees and guests with an inspiring workspace that responds to their individual preferences, emphasizes employee health, social wellbeing, and celebrates community and their art collection,” said Anne Smith, Perkins&Will’s Workplace Practice Leader.
The emphasis on art is a unique feature of Maslon’s new space. Sam Maslon and his wife, Luella, were avid collectors of notable mid-century artwork, including works by Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg. They donated much of their collection to museums, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), but a number of pieces remain with the firm. In anticipation of the move to Capella, Maslon worked with Perkins&Will to design the new office space for the art and how it is experienced as one moves through the work environment.
The new address will be 225 South 6th Street, Suite 2900, Minneapolis, MN 55402. Maslon has been located since 1992 in Wells Fargo Center, formerly known as Norwest Center.
