Margo Brownell Honored with 2022 Minnesota Icon Award by Finance & Commerce

October 24, 2022

Maslon is pleased to announce that Margo Brownell, partner and chair of the firm’s Insurance Coverage Group, has been chosen to receive the 2022 Minnesota Icon Award by Finance & Commerce. The award recognizes her years of achievement and keen ability to lead, succeed, and inspire others. Among her notable accomplishments, Margo's leadership of Maslon's thriving insurance coverage group since 2014 has been key to its development into one of the nation's leading policyholder insurance coverage practices.

Margo's influence at the firm has been enduring and impactful. She was determined early on to become highly successful at bringing in business at a time when entrepreneurialism was relatively uncommon among senior women attorneys. In doing so, she set a standard for all attorneys and has become a particular example for women in the profession. She is now one of the top female rainmakers at the firm.

Margo has also made significant contributions to the profession. In 2012 she founded the Insurance Law Clinic at the University of Minnesota Law School—the first of its kind in the country—which provides legal help for policyholders who receive an insurance denial and can't afford to hire a lawyer to challenge it. Margo also regularly presents continuing education sessions for the American Bar Association and publishes articles about insurance law. For several years, she has co-authored a key chapter for the Minnesota Insurance Law Deskbook, the definitive resource on Minnesota insurance coverage issues.

Margo will be profiled in the Minnesota Icons celebration publication in both Finance & Commerce and Minnesota Lawyer.
