Legal Services Corporation Forum on Increasing Access to Justice

July 23, 2024

Maslon attorney Jim Long will participate July 23 in the Forum on Increasing Access to Justice at the annual meeting of the Legal Services Corporation board of directors. In the panel discussion, "Looking Beyond Lawyers to Close the Justice Gap," Jim will share details about the Legal Paraprofessional Pilot Project (LPPP), which was created to increase access to justice in Minnesota by allowing nonlawyers to provide legal services in case types where parties typically appear without legal representation. Jim was appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court to serve on the standing committee of the LPPP.

Jim has a long history of working towards access to justice for those who otherwise could not afford an attorney. He has been an MSBA North Star Lawyer (completing 50+ hours per year of pro bono work) since the program's inception, in 2016 received the Hennepin County Bar Association's Pro Bono Publico Distinguished Service Award, and is serving his second term as a member of the Supreme Court’s Legal Services Advisory Committee ("LSAC"). Jim has 40 years' experience trying cases in the areas of antitrust, franchise, and dealer/distribution law and teaches antitrust law at the University of Minnesota Law School as an adjunct professor.
