Judah Druck Authors Article for Bench & Bar on How Orthodox Judaism's Eruv Tradition Intersects with the Law
January 30, 2023
Judah Druck, a partner in Maslon's Litigation Group, has authored an article for Bench & Bar on Orthodox Judaism's practice of creating a "private domain" to facilitate activity on the Sabbath and how it intersects with the law. The rule against working on the Sabbath prohibits observant Jews from carrying an object between a private domain and a public domain, such as a sidewalk. Jewish leaders introduced the eruv, a wire encompassing a wide area, such as a city, to create a symbolic private domain. But the tradition has occasionally stirred controversy, as Judah describes in the article, titled "Live Wire: The law, Orthodox Judaism, and Minnesota’s eruvim."
