Katie Maechler, Stephanie Laws, and Abigail Maier Co-Author Article for ACC on Avoiding the Internal Document From Hell

Partners Katie Maechler and Stephanie Laws, with attorney Abigail Maier, have co-authored an article for the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) titled "Ten Steps to Avoid Creating the Internal Document from Hell." The article offers practical advice on how to minimize the risks that corporate documents present, whether they be emails, texts, handwritten notes, social media posts, videos, or other communication.

Katie is a partner and co-chair of Maslon's Litigation Group and Tort & Product Liability Group. She focuses her practice on product liability defense litigation and has successfully represented clients of varying sizes across a range of product industries in federal and state courts throughout the country. Katie has particular expertise defending major manufacturers’ products in claims centered on device safety notifications and recalls. She has extensive experience managing the fact and expert discovery phases of litigation, taking and defending depositions of fact witnesses, healthcare providers, 30(b)(6) representatives, and experts, and has worked closely with technical, medical, and human factors experts.

Stephanie is a partner and co-chair of Maslon's Tort & Product Liability Group who represents businesses in product liability and complex civil litigation in federal and state courts nationwide. She also conducts internal investigations and helps companies respond to government enforcement actions. Stephanie’s product liability bandwidth spans multiple industries, with particular focus on defense of FDA-regulated products. She is an experienced litigator who has handled cases from fact investigation through jury verdict. She has significant experience managing large-scale document collections and productions as well as e-discovery issues, both in one-off cases and across coordinated portfolios. Stephanie leverages insights from multiple client secondments to develop efficient legal strategies that are custom tailored to fit business needs.

Abbie is a litigation attorney who assists clients with a broad range of general commercial litigation matters and business disputes. A graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, she was recognized as a 2022 North Star Lawyer for her commitment to pro bono work.
