Voice of Maslon
Two months after I began working at Maslon, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the world as we know it shut down. While I struggled with the stress of the unknown and sudden shift to the virtual world, this past year has been my best professionally, thanks to the opportunities, training, and support from my colleagues at Maslon.
Before Maslon, I worked at a large intellectual property boutique. I truly enjoyed my patent litigation practice, but wanted a more diverse professional experience. At the time I was looking for a new firm, Maslon was building up its intellectual property practice to include patent litigation. I knew Maslon was a respected and collegial firm from my experience in the Federal Bar Association, so I eagerly applied for the newly posted litigation position.
Although I was nervous to move firms, I am happy to report that my experience at Maslon has exceeded my expectations. I have daily contact with my clients, who range from individuals to in-house counsel at Fortune 500 companies. I manage excellent junior associates on my cases. I have a training mentor who ensures that I am receiving opportunities to develop my career. I am also in charge of developing my own practice area, which energizes me every day I login. In my work, I use my technical background and patent litigation training to assist clients with a variety of cases including intellectual property, product liability, and contract litigation. Most notably, I have used my technical background to assist my main client with developing a comprehensive legal strategy for defending claims related to a medical device recall.
Not only am I excited about my billable work, I am grateful to Maslon for supporting my pro bono work and legal community involvement. Attorneys at Maslon take pro bono responsibilities seriously, and I have worked with excellent teams over the past year to prevent consumer fraud related to pandemic goods as well as assist an individual with a Social Security disability appeal. The firm has also encouraged and supported my legal community involvement in the Federal Bar Association and promotion of attorneys with disabilities.
Although this was a challenging year, I have truly enjoyed developing relationships with my Maslon colleagues and look forward to working with them for many years to come.
