Melissa Muro LaMere Selected as Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association's First Orgullo Honoree
February 5, 2020
Melissa Muro LaMere, partner in Maslon's Labor & Employment and Litigation Groups, has been selected as the first Orgullo Honoree by the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association (MHBA). The MHBA created the recognition to highlight significant milestones for the Minnesota Latinx legal community. A dedicated leader across numerous initiatives focused on advancing diversity, Melissa is particularly engaged with elevating the profile of and increasing opportunities for Latinx attorneys who currently make up only 1% of legal practitioners across Minnesota.
In 2019, Melissa was appointed to the Hispanic National Bar Association Latina Commission, which aims to develop programs and strategies for Latina lawyers and students to overcome barriers to entry and advancement into the profession. She was also appointed by Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Commission on Judicial Selection, created to help ensure more diverse and inclusive courts through review and recommendation of candidates. Since 2016, she has served on the board of the Minnesota Infinity Project, an organization focused on gender disparity on the bench throughout the Eighth Circuit. Previously, she served on the board of the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association and was the co-chair of the Judicial Endorsements Committee. At Maslon, she serves as a member of Maslon's Diversity Committee and co-chair of Maslon's Diverse Attorney Resource Group.
Melissa is an employment and business litigation attorney who enjoys working with clients to protect and grow their business in a competitive marketplace. She focuses her practice on the full spectrum of employment counseling and litigation matters in addition to business disputes involving non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, trade secrets, business contracts and torts, and unfair competition and trade practices.
Melissa has been selected as a 2020 40 Under 40 Honoree by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, and she is recognized as a 2019 "Top Lawyer Under 40" by the Hispanic National Bar Association, an award recognizing lawyers who have demonstrated professional excellence, integrity, leadership, commitment to the Hispanic community, and dedication to improving the legal profession. She was also recognized as part of the 2019 "Diversity and Inclusion Awards" and as a 2017 "Up & Coming Attorney" by Minnesota Lawyer.
